Dreams of Warriors
The fourth novel by award winning author Susan Brocker and follows Restless Spirit, Saving Sam and Brave Bess and the ANZAC Horses. The story is set in New Zealand during World War Two and illustrates just how tough it was for women left behind during the war to carry on farming. A gripping story that encompases New Zealand historical content.
Ghosts of Iron Bottom Sound
An immaculately researched first novel by Sandy Nelson, The Ghosts of Iron Bottom Sound tells the little-known story of the It is based on the horrific and disastrously botched World War Two naval Battle of Savo Island at Guadalcanal. Many allied
ships, including the Australian heavy cruiser, HMAS Canberra were sunk by a Japanese fleet. This powerful novel serves as a reminder of the futility of war, and as a memorial to the brave sailors who lost their lives defending Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands from a Japanese invasion during the war.
Jade and the Stray
Amy Brown’s love of horses and ponies, and experience of pony club and competing, prompted this delightful story of friendship and ponies. Amy Brown has a distinct flair for educating and informing in a most subtle way. During the story, we meet a cast of likeable and caring people, who encourage and support Jade. Nonetheless, the book is not without its minor villains and tense moments.
Shadow of the Boyd
Shadow of the Boyd tells the full story, including the lead-up to the incident in 1809, when all but four of the 70 crew and passengers of the merchant ship Boyd were massacred in Whangaroa harbour as an act of utu. Tragically, subsequent reprisals by crews of five whaling ships killed many Maori they wrongly believed were responsible, taking the death toll to over 200 in all. In this compelling and factually based novel we re-live the final voyages of the Boyd as seen through the eyes of 15-year-old apprentice sailor.
