Teacher (or student) states a number. Start with a relatively
high number eg. 103. Subtract a single digit number from this, eg 7.
Go around the class and have each student subtract 7
from the previous answer. You may change the single digit number midstream.
This game can be played out loud, or students could
write their answers on paper.
Going up!
Simply reverse the game to add a single digit number.
| Many Ways to Write a Number |
Many Ways to Write a Number - Noggle. This is the numeric
version of Boggle, the word game. Here students are challenged to write down as many
ways as possible of expressing a number, eg 22
- 20 +2
10 +12
2 x 11
24 - 2
These can become more complex depending on the class
(20 x 2) - 18
The winners are those with the most correct Noggles!
Moving around the classroom, either in desk rows or columns,
have first pupil call out a number (an upper limit may need to be set), second pupil
calls out another number. Third pupil gives the answer being the total of two numbers.
Then second pupil calls out a number, third pupil calls a number and fourth pupil
gives answer.
This continues until each pupil has had a chance to
answer.
Score 10 points for a correct answer.
This could be modified for subtraction or multiplication.
