But how prepared are we? Do we have a disaster plan? Have we got an up-to-date survival kit? Could we last for three days without help? All these issues and more are explored in this major Health, English and Social Sciences unit.

SCHOOL VEGETABLE GARDENS

Major science, health and English activities based on the theme of establishing and growing a class/school vegetable garden and/or a potager herb, shrub and vegetable garden.Students conduct research prior to preparing and planting, concentrate on soil preparation, asthetics and regular reporting back. A fun and educational project for all ages.

SUSTAINABLE DAIRY FARMING – Environmental AwarenessIn this second of our Dairy NZ series students investigate why and how we are all playing our part and becoming more environmentally conscious. We focus on the dairy industry and find out what farmers are doing to play their part – particularly in protecting our precious waterways and why environmental concerns are so important to this major export industry.

ENVIRONMENT FEATURE

Classroom activities to encourage the recyling of mobile phones – not only an enviromental initiative, but also to help people in developing countries. Waitakere City offer special professional development courses on an environmental theme (FREE) for teachers in the Waitakere area. If you live in Waitakere City, be sure to take up this special offer – including up to two paid relievers per school.
